Connect & Discover

Spark Renewables is one of Australia’s leading developers and long-term owners of renewable energy generation assets, founded in Sydney in 2018. The purpose behind Spark Renewables starts with sustainability. It is the reason they exist and it fuels their drive to play their part in building Australia’s renewable energy future. Spark Renewables reached out to Yirra Miya to create an artwork for their Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. Through engaging and connecting with the Spark Renewables team, Yirra Miya were inspired by their approach around land management and care. Also inspiring was Spark Renewables commitment to learning and curiosity around cultural direction demonstrated by their training program in which they provide jobs and training for community, as well as opportunities to come together and provide their insights.

Spark Renewables Cultural Artwork

Gather & Create

Through connecting with the Spark Renewables team, Lauren created an artwork with pulled elements that could be utilised throughout their Reconciliation Action Plan. She was assisted by First Nations Junior Designer Brittany who created the solar panel and wind turbine elements that intertwine within the artwork, reflecting an abstract yet visually identifying representation of some of Spark Renewables offerings. Lauren’s cultural storytelling shines through in this artwork that reflects the story of Spark Renewables so far and how their business is walking their reconciliation journey, with a will to learn but also to share their expertise toward the development of renewable energy projects.

Cultural Illustrations

Lauren’s collaboration with Spark Renewables meant she was able to encapsulate the essence of the team and provide them with the following elements:

This multilayered yarning circle represents the staff at Spark Renewables and their safe space for employees to come together to value and respect each other. There is also a personal symbolic connection of their team to waterways which is represented by two flowing lines around the centre meeting circle with people sitting surrounded by the flow of water. On each side of the yarning circle are country lines to represent the different lands on which Spark Renewables works, lives, plays, and interacts with community. The upside ‘U’ shape represents people and Spark Renewables commitment to caring for Country alongside community members.

A photo of our cultural designer Lauren. She is smiling, has brown hair and is wearing a white and black checked tshirt.

Lauren absolutely loved working with the Spark Renewables team to create their Reconciliation Action Plan artwork and elements.
It was a project that was created in a safe space to explore how businesses can meaningfully engage and connect with culture in a way that is for the benefit of our Country.
