FNAAFV Logo

Connect & Discover

First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence (FNAAFV), formerly known as the NFVPLS Forum, has served as a national peak body since 2012. FNAAFV works in partnership with members of the Family Violence Prevention & Legal Services (FVPLS) sector to improve access to justice for First Nations people affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The team at FNAAFV contacted Yirra Miya for support with their new branding identity to align better with their vision in creating a future where all First Nations communities can live free from the devastating impacts of family violence. It was important to ensure throughout the process that FNAAFV’s brand identity represented their incredible journey thus far, and their movement into a self determined, community-controlled national peak body. The Yirra Miya team felt incredibly inspired and passionate to be working alongside FNAAFV to bring their brand to life.

Gather & Create

Through connected with the FNAAFV team, Lauren and Leticia worked on creating a brand that encapsulated the journey of determination that is at the core of how FNAAFV function. Lauren created FNAAFV’s logo to intentionally tie back to FNAAFV’s hero artwork and highlight the importance of collaboration when working in such an important space.

Story behind the logo

The FNAAFV logo holds three connected watering holes representing the important connection that FNAAFV holds in their relationships with the community, corporate stakeholders and within the organisation. The watering holes consist of different layers highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge, holding space for vulnerable conversations, upskilling other organisations, and bringing awareness of the impacts of domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The following elements were also created collaboratively between Lauren and Leticia to further expand on the story behind FNAAFV, reflecting on their rich history but also recognising the impact that will come in the future from working with and for community.

Safety

Safety

This element shows a yarning circle with a family at the centre. The different layers represent the importance of connection to Country, connection to community, and connection to each other. The men, women, and people surrounding this family are a representation of FNAAFV and their members and their priority in keeping families together. These people represent the importance that having a safe community holds. We are all responsible to look after each other and uplift each other.
Culture & Healing

Culture & Healing

This element shows a camp site with three mountains to represent cultural knowledge and learning undertaken at FNAAFV. The connected watering holes in the centre represent the importance that culture holds in cultivating a space that is rich in cultural knowledge but also creating a space for healing. The kangaroo tracks are moving upwards around the circle to represent moving forward and the importance that culture holds for FNAAFV now and will hold for FNAAFV in the future.
Self Determination

Self-Determination

This element shows a yarning circle at the bottom surrounded by the women who have paved the way for FNAAFV to come into fruition. It represents their sacrifice, their persistence and their passion for the cause. The journey line to the top yarning circle represents that this journey was not linear and they were guided by their ancestors in this space. The top yarning circle represents FNAAFV now, made up of people who are passionate about eradicating family and sexual violence and are looking ahead for the next stage of the journey.
Advocating

Advocating

This element shows a community with two layers of people to represent FNAAFV working collaboratively alongside members and partners to deliver culturally safe, self-driven, and holistic solutions. The knowledge sticks on each side represent the importance of holding space for each other to learn and collaborate in sharing knowledge and expertise to widen the impact of FNAAFV.
Specialists & Governance

Specialists & Governance

This element represents a yarning circle at the middle being the FVPLS sector. The two community circles on the sides represent the legal and nonlegal approaches that they provide. The kangaroo and emu tracks show this intertwining of the two approaches through the FVPLS sector. This element highlights the specialist and expertise knowledge of the members of FNAAFV and their contributions to the impact of FNAAFV through their specialist cultural knowledge. The two smaller yarning circles are different to represent that each community FNAAFV partners with is unique which means that each approach is tailored to each community.

Embracing Opportunities

This element focuses on young people embracing opportunities throughout the many stages in their lives and overcoming challenges and hurdles. This is represented by the mountains surrounding them in the middle, and how climbing to the top of the mountain is worth it every time. They are also supported and encouraged by others around them

Reflection

Lauren and Leticia loved working on this project alongside the FNAAFV team to bring their branding to life in a meaningful way to highlight the vitality of their presence in the family violence space. Throughout this project, it allowed time for Lauren and Leticia to reflect on the strength of FNAAFV, the journey to this point in time and the growth that will come in the future for FNAAFV and their members.
