Local Government Procurement

Local Government Procurement is a leading procurement organisation focused on supporting all councils across NSW. LGP is a ‘prescribed entity’ under legislation which means councils using an LGP contract don’t have to go to tender for values greater than the tendering threshold, saving valuable time and resources.
Local Government Procurement reached out to Yirra Miya for the creation of a Cultural Artwork and Elements package. Through connecting and engaging with the LGP team, it was clear that through their work, they create a support network for their clients, communities and councils they work with while providing opportunities for First Nations vendors to be considered in the procurement space with local councils.
Through connecting with the LGP team, Lauren was able to create an artwork with pulled elements that deeply reflected the essence of the LGP team and the community they support.
Lauren worked with the team to create a story that reflects how LGP approach their commitment to working in a way that elevates First Nations business to greater opportunities.
Lauren created the following elements:
This element is a yarning circle to represent Local Government Procurement, representing a safe space where every employee comes together as a team and is valued and respected. This yarning circle represents that LGP is a space where collaboration between employees is essential for functionality and growth.
This element represents Local Government Procurement’s connection to Country. The kangaroo tracks traveling from left to right represent the notion of moving forward in their journey and for reconciliation, which is significant as kangaroos cannot move backward. The different layers of dots represent the importance of sustainability and looking after the land for generations to come.
This element represents connected watering holes demonstrating LGP’s commitment to sharing knowledge – the flow-on effect of sharing knowledge, that when we learn and share those new learnings and skills with others, we are better for it.
This element is a Community Circle with people surrounding it (u-shape symbols). This Community Circle is a representation of the community impact that Local Government Procurement have within the communities that they work, live and thrive. These spaces are a safe space to listen and learn to better connections and relationships with community.
This element is a community circles surrounded by kangaroo tracks to represent Local Government Procurement’s commitment to making meaningful and respectful connections in community, with First Nations clients/stakeholders and the partnerships that will be formed in the future. The kangaroo tracks are facing outwards to represent a journey of moving forward into the next season.
This element is a cluster of stars. Stars were and still are used by First Nations people to navigate the lands and understand seasons. These stars represent the guidance that Local Government Procurement has from community, stakeholders and clients. Stars are a connection to the skies and represent the importance of reflection.
This element is a Community Circle which represents the local councils that Local Government Procurement partner with and the importance of bringing First Nations contractors into a space to build partnerships with local councils. This Community Circle represents a safe space to build rapport, explore opportunities and create a network of clients.
This element is a Community Circle surrounded by knowledge sticks to represent Local Government Procurement’s commitment to advocacy and engagement with First Nations suppliers. This element represents the time taken to build strong and long lasting connections, but also a space where LGP will advocate and uplift First Nations suppliers to gain contracts with clients.
Lauren loved collaborating with the LGP team to bring to life an artwork that reflects their journey so far and their commitment to meaningful engagement with First Nations community and vendors in the future.
